Manufacturing 101 Workshop to take place this fall
Wednesday, August 27, 2014
The Iowa Lakes Corridor Development Corporation is rolling out a third Manufacturing 101 workshop this fall. The workshop will take place on nights and weekends, starting Tuesday, September 16th - Thursday, November 20th. All classes will be held at night on Tuesdays and Thursdays with occasional Saturday classes from 6:30am - 2:30pm to replicate a traditional manufacturing work period.
"This training is in response to the significant hiring underway and projected for the next several years by employers in the Iowa Lakes Corridor region," said Kiley Miller, President and CEO of the Iowa Lakes Corridor. "The summer sessions of Manufacturing 101 proved to be very successful; now we will move into the fall session, nights and weekends, to accommodate more people.”
The course will take place again at the Spencer High School Industrial Technology building on the Spencer High School campus. Successful execution of interviews throughout the course may lead to on-the-spot hiring for participants from a variety of employment settings to choose from.
"Manufacturing 101 is a great public/private partnership between several employers in this region, IowaWORKS, and Iowa Lakes Community College. The goals are to increase the availability of skilled workers and for more people to land a good job," said Miller.
Tina Sherrill-Range, the Corridor’s Business-Education Partnership Professional, is spearheading the efforts for the Manufacturing 101 workshop series. Sherrill-Range says she’s excited to offer a third class for people interested in a career change.
“To better accommodate career changers or for people who have other responsibilities during the day, the Corridor switched up the format of the class to nights and occasional Saturdays,” states Sherrill-Range. “We’re excited to have the opportunity to fine-tune the program to accommodate the needs of our community members.”
Applications for Manufacturing 101 are now being accepted. Interested participants may contact the Corridor at firstname.lastname@example.org or 712.264.3474 for more information and application.
