K – 12 Education
K-12 education in the Iowa Lakes Corridor region is first class. Residents of this area have committed time and time again to providing quality education – facilities, programs, and teachers – for its children through bond issues, school foundations, booster clubs and property taxes.
K-12 schools in the region boast some of the highest graduation rates in Iowa and the country as well as a high percentage of students completing ACT test and posting scores above the national average. Some examples of excellence in K-12 schools in the region are:
- Alta – 95.35% graduation rate in 2009
- Armstrong-Ringsted – 91.30% graduation rate in 2009
- Clay-Central Everly – elementary named a ‘Blue Ribbon School’; provides every high school student with a laptop computer in 2007; 96.77% graduation rate in 2009
- Estherville-Lincoln – 98.92% graduation rate in 2009; school bond issue passed December 2006 by 82%
- Harris-Lake Park Schools – No Child Left Behind Blue Ribbon School 2004 & Iowa Exemplary Music Award 2002; 96.30% graduation rate in 2009
- Laurens Marathon – 97.30% graduation rate in 2009
- Newell Fonda – 94.12% graduation rate in 2009
- Okoboji schools excellent fine arts program includes instrumental and vocal programs, musical productions, art programs, speech and drama activities and a debate team and 500-seat auditorium has state-of-the-art sound and lighting technology for school and community performances; 95% graduation rate in 2009
- Terril/Graettinger – 100% graduation rate in 2009
- Sioux Central - 92.45% graduation rate in 2009; offers 63 college credits on campus
- Spencer – new middle school opened 2006-07 school year; 87.22% graduation rate in 2009
- Spirit Lake – 2009 school year entitled Spirit Lake to 1:1 technology where every student receives a computer, well-known internationally for its wind turbine generation on campus; new SAMI performing arts center opened in April 2008; 96.52% graduation rate in 2009
- Storm Lake – 60.19% graduation rate in 2009
