The Iowa Lakes Corridor, organized in 1992 to foster, encourage, promote, assist or otherwise aid economic growth and development in the four-county region of Buena Vista, Clay, Dickinson and Emmet. Successes and results have been substantial over the past several years. The collaboration of our counties since 1999 has resulted in:
- Over 2,500 new jobs
- 1,032 jobs retained
- 37 new companies
- $120+ million of new capital investment
- 66 projects completed
- 115 existing industry interviews conducted
- 10 spec buildings constructed; 8 sold
- $31.7 million of new federal/state funds received for priority projects
- 726 students involved in entrepreneurial training
- 190 volunteers involved
- Over 85,000 visits to www.lakescorridor.com since it launched in 2008
- Partnerships with 20 financial institutions, 6 utilities, 10 communities, 4 counties, and many local, state and federal agencies and organizations
- Regional events – Okoboji Entrepreneurial Institute; regional high school business plan competition; Be Your Own Boss seminar; Middle School Entrepreneurship Academy; Junior Achievement programming in elementary & middle schools; regional job fairs; internship training; Club E (entrepreneur networking events); and entrepreneurial training programs such as the Kauffman FastTrac NewVenture program.
