Iowa Lakes Corridor’s “Manufacturing 101” to host Media Open House

News Release
Iowa Lakes Corridor Development Corporation will be hosting a Media Open House to discuss their Adult Manufacturing 101 program for career changers. The Media Open House will take place on Tuesday, October 28th from 5:30pm – 6:45pm in the Industrial Technology Building at Spencer High School.
"Manufacturing 101 is a great public/private partnership between several manufacturing employers in this region, Iowa Lakes Corridor, IowaWORKS, and Iowa Lakes Community College,” said Kiley Miller, Iowa Lakes Corridor’s President and CEO. “The goals are to increase the availability of skilled workers and for more people to land a good job.”
Manufacturing 101 was created in response to the significant hiring underway and projected for the next several years by employers in the Iowa Lakes Corridor region. The Corridor first implemented the program in June with a trial-session; the second program in July hosted nine students from across the region. The session currently hosts eight adult students from across the Corridor.
Kicking off the open house will be a round table consisting of representatives from each of the partnering manufacturing companies. The purpose of the round table is two-fold; students will be able to question participants before their actual interviews at the end of the class, while media personnel will have the opportunity to learn more about the program and the collaborative efforts of manufacturing employers in the region. Attendees will hear from these representatives as well as learn more about the workshop. The round table is followed by large group photos, light refreshments and the opportunity to observe the class. The schedule is as follows:
5:30pm: Welcome remarks and round table discussion
- Introductions of partnering companies
- Informational session about Adult Manufacturing 101 workshop
- Question/answer session for students and media
6:30pm: Group photo and viewing of the class
This event is free and open to all media personnel. To RSVP to this event, contact Libby Glaser, Communications and Events Coordinator of the Iowa Lakes Corridor, at lglaser@lakescorridor.com, or call 712.264.3474.
