Buena Vista County has jumped up three spots on the list of county population rankings since last year, according to a new study by the Iowa Association of Counties.
The BV County Board of Supervisors reviewed the new numbers informally Monday morning before their regular meeting. Buena Vista County is the only one in the area to improve in the rankings, they found.
Buena Vista climbed from 34th to 31st largest county in population, passing Carroll County, which remained unchanged at 32nd.
In the area, Clay County is 46th highest, unchanged. Cherokee is 65th, Ida 93rd, and Pocahontas 91st, all dropping one position. Sac County remained unchanged at 75th, and O'Brien County at 56th.
"Buena Vista and Woodbury (Sioux City) are the only counties in northwest Iowa that have seen growth," Supervisor Dale Arends said.
