Iowa, a booming technology center
10 Oct 2016
From Google’s data centers to technology companies serving financial and insurance industries, Iowa has gone high tech. Information and communication technology now accounts for over $10 billion of the state’s GDP.
To train the workforce needed, Iowa Lakes Community College is offering programming, related classes and specialty groups. Jolene Rogers, the Executive Director of the Iowa Lakes Community College Foundation, says, “The Spirit Lake Robotics group has greatly increased our youth’s interest in STEM careers, many of which are available in our region.” (For more on the college: http://ow.ly/GVfh303ycVA.)
The college is working closely with the Iowa Lakes Corridor Development Corporation to promote technology training. (For background, see: http://ow.ly/pRo1303ydKF.) Their efforts are boosting student involvement in STEM learning--science, technology, engineering and math.
