Cultivating renewable energy
14 Nov 2016
About 14 percent of the energy used in the U.S. comes from renewable sources like wind, solar and hydropower. Iowa farmers are part of the trend.
The Iowa Lakes Electric Cooperative helps farmers decide if it makes sense to invest in alternative forms of energy. See info here: http://ow.ly/4i0Y303F5IZ. Their land is sprouting wind turbines and solar electric systems, which can then be interconnected with the grid by the Cooperative.
The Iowa Lakes Corridor is also home to windtest, a German wind energy company. It has moved to the Sustainable Energy Resource Technology building at the Iowa Lakes Community College. (Check out the story here: http://ow.ly/NbFO303F61M.)
