News Release
SPENCER, Iowa -- The Buena Vista University (BVU) Spencer campus celebrated its 40th anniversary on Monday, Dec 19 with a come-and-go celebration at their location in the Gateway North Mall next to Center Cleaners.
“We are so excited to be celebrating 40 years,” says Assistant Director Peggy Bates. “During our time here in Spencer we have helped nearly one thousand students achieve their bachelor’s degree while being able to work and stay close to home.”
One of BVU’s earliest learning sites, BVU Spencer was established in 1976 in partnership with Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC). They are a part of BVU’s Lakes Region, which also includes additional ILCC partner sites in Estherville, Spirit Lake and Emmetsburg.
As one of 16 learning locations across Iowa, BVU Spencer offers students with 60 or more credit hours or an associate’s degree the opportunity to seek a bachelor’s degree close to home. Graduate programs, endorsements and licensures are also available for professional educators. BVU Lakes Region has over 50 programs of study that combine online and evening face-to-face classes taken in 8-week terms. Academic Advisors are on staff to ensure a smooth transition from enrollment to graduation.
BVU learning site locations are fully accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools and fully approved by the Iowa Department of Education.
