Jumping into icy water as a quality-of-life issue

20 Feb 2017

For those in the know, the joys of the Polar Plunge are many. The event, started by a bored Canadian in 1920, provides excuses for mid-winter chili cook offs and other types of riotous living.

Not to be outdone, the Iowa Lakes Corridor is home to the University of Okoboji Winter Games, going strong since 1981. The Plunge is on the State Pier at Arnolds Park on West Lake Okoboji. No complaining is allowed.

In addition, games feature a chili cook off, flag football, a bag tournament, broomball, softball, fireworks, the Chocolate Classic and the Burning of the Greens. Check the pictures here: http://ow.ly/a0t3303Fncy.
