Awards and Recognition

Spencer is a finalist for the Technology Community of the Year Prometheus Award, the Technology Association of Iowa and LWBJ announced.

The Prometheus Awards have recognized innovation in Iowa’s technology industry for 12 years.

“The Prometheus Awards is the most prestigious recognition for Iowa’s technology industry and brings together leaders from the tech community to celebrate the year’s most momentous innovations,” stated Brian Waller, President of the Technology Association of Iowa, in a press release. “These awards showcase the great talent and companies in Iowa and further solidify Iowa’s reputation as a tech state.”

Spencer Municipal Utilities General Manager and CEO, Steve Pick, said Spencer was nominated for the award by the LS2 Group earlier this year. Pick said the nomination noted SMU’s early investment in telecommunications infrastructure, as well as their current fiber to home conversion project.

Pick added that the nomination also included SMU’s continued investment in infrastructure in electric and water, as well as SMU’s economic development initiatives.

Joining Spencer as finalists for Technology Community of the Year are Ames, Cedar Falls, Cedar Rapids, Greater Des Moines and Urbandale.

The winner of the 2017 Prometheus Awards will be announced during the Prometheus Awards celebration April 20 in Des Moines.
