A festive fundraiser Saturday night launched the campaign to preserve the historic Carnegie Library in downtown Spirit Lake.
The demolition phase of the project is underway on the front of the structure at the corner of Hill Avenue and Highway 9. Spearheading the project and fund drive is Dr. Steven Baskerville.
"We need to raise about $50,000 to redo the front entrance," he said. "We had to remove the old cement steps that had deteriorated beyond repair."
Steps, brickwork and columns are involved, according to Baskerville.
