Rent to a vet

10 Apr 2017

Affordable housing is a challenge for many Americans. When you’re one of the 30 percent of young vets, from 18 to 24, who don’t have a job, finding a place to live is a daily struggle.

And those that are employed often juggle where to put their paychecks: into food, housing or other basics. A mortgage is way outside their current capacity. Just coming up with the rent is a constant trial.

That’s why the Home Base Iowa Initiative, with the Iowa Lakes Corridor Development Corporation, is working to attract vets to the area. Both Emmet and Clay counties are actively seeking vets for a large number of rental housing units, all reasonably priced.
