Not enough people?

17 Apr 2017

There’s a general feeling that the U.S. is overcrowded. The population is over 324 million, with 81 percent living in cities and suburbs.

That is, unless you live in parts of the rural Midwest, where the population has been declining over the last 50 or more years. Though these areas are less crowded, they have problems too. Fewer people mean not enough skilled workers to keep the economy growing.

That’s the reason behind Iowa Lakes Corridor 5x5 Campaign, with a goal of increasing the population in the region by 5 percent over 5 years, 2017 to 2021. Led by the Iowa Lakes Corridor Development Corporation, the effort involves conducting interviews with business leaders and citizen groups.
