Opening date nears for Milford’s Dollar General

Dollar General officials anticipate a mid-summer opening, but for now concrete will continue to dry outside of the storefront in north Milford.

Milford Deputy City Clerk Carrie Funk said company officials contacted the city about building a new store in the fall of 2016.

“Based on the initial construction timeline, I anticipate the store will open by mid-summer,” Laura Somerville, with Dollar General Corporate Communications, said. Somerville said the time line may be altered some as the last few construction phases progress.

She said the company considers several factors when placing a new store.

“When choosing store locations, meeting customers’ needs is Dollar General’s top priority,” Somerville said. “The company looks for places where we can offer customers an easy and convenient shopping choice. We know convenience is a major factor in our customers’ shopping decisions as we generally serve customers within a three to five-mile radius, or 10-minute drive. We also take demographic trends, competitive factors, traffic patterns and community concerns into consideration.”

Funk indicated a location in Milford may allow some residents to shop in town, rather than drive to larger cities.
