Utilities, Iowa Lakes Corridor announce new industrial building for sale in Spirit Lake

SPIRIT LAKE, Iowa – Iowa Lakes Electric Cooperative, Corn Belt Power Cooperative and the Iowa Lakes Corridor Development Corporation (Corridor) today announced completion of a speculative building for industry in East Lakes Industrial Park.

The 30,000-square-foot, steel building at 540 East Fifth Street, Spirit Lake, is available for purchase for $799,000.

Constructed by Henningsen Construction of Spencer, the building is a partnership of the cooperatives, and the Corridor, a regional economic development organization. The Iowa Lakes Corridor Future Fund, an affiliate of the Corridor, owns the building. A loan from the U.S. Department of Agriculture helped finance the project.

“Corn Belt has now constructed more than 32 speculative buildings on our system to provide opportunities for new and expanding businesses,” said Jim Vermeer, Vice President for Business Development at Corn Belt Power Cooperative.

The building features a 35-foot ceiling peak and 30-foot eaves, utilities on site and 4.7 acres of land. US Highway 71/Iowa 9 is less than half a mile away via County Road M56.

“The design and location were selected to accommodate the rapid business environment and efficiency demands that manufacturers face today,” said Tresa Hussong, Vice President of Customer & Corporate Relations for Iowa Lakes Electric Cooperative.

Kiley Miller, CEO of the Corridor, thanked the Iowa Area Development Group in Des Moines, an economic development arm of the state’s rural electric cooperatives, for helping secure the department of agriculture funding.

“For our region to remain competitive, it is important to maintain a varied inventory of commercial and industrial buildings available for purchase or lease,” Miller said. “The new shell building demonstrates the importance of US Department of Agriculture economic development programs to the vitality of rural Iowa communities.”
