Landon Louscher is the Marketing Associate Intern at Farmers Bank in Spencer, an opportunity supported by the Spencer Area Jobs Trust program. Louscher is from Paullina, Iowa, where he has lived his whole life. He attends Iowa State University and will be a senior in the fall. After taking a marketing class last year, Louscher decided to add a marketing major to his management major.
A desire to stay in Northwest Iowa and his newfound passion for marketing inspired him to apply for this position which he saw posted on the Iowa State online job board, CyHire. The process went very quickly, and he had an interview a week after applying.
As he is only in the second week of the position, Louscher said that he was still acclimating to life at the Farmers Bank, but said, “I am excited about the opportunity to get a lot of real-world experience in this job.” He was also thrilled to provide knowledge and expertise on marketing projects this summer. “They value my opinion here which I am excited about. A project they have is trying to attract and retain Millennials and Generation Y and X customers. I’m also looking forward to starting a Twitter page for the company.”
Additionally, Louscher said that he had already seen the benefit of his work by gaining skills that he will be able to utilize in his life after college. “I’ve done a lot of work with other companies. I have had to set a reorder for some accessories. We are doing a folder redesign, so I have been in contact with graphic designers, and I have also been learning how to do photoshop and photo editing.”
“We are excited to have Landon as part of the Farmers Bank team this summer!” said Shana Herke, Marketing Officer at Farmers Bank. “My goal is that our partnership is mutually beneficial. I hope to provide training and learning opportunities for him, and I’m looking forward to getting his perspective on new and existing marketing initiatives. We also think it’s great that he wants to stay in Northwest Iowa after graduation.”
When asked if he had advice for students applying for internships, Louscher said, “You have to be passionate about what you want to go into. I know that marketing is something that I really have an interest in which is why I decided to apply for this internship.”
