Intern Spotlight: Lupe Tapia

Lupe Tapia is the Human Resources Intern for Quality Refrigerated Services in Spencer. Originally from Harris, Iowa, Tapia will study Human Resources at Iowa Lakes Community College. 

While scrolling through social media, the job caught her eye. “It popped up on my Facebook page that there was an opening,” Tapia said. “They were looking for someone bilingual who would be willing to train, so I decided to apply. I wanted something where I could use both my English and Spanish, so it was a perfect position.”

Because her position started a few weeks ago, she is still figuring out company culture in addition to her human resource duties. “Right now, I am trying to learn about how the plant runs,” she explained. “I am getting to know my co-workers and have them be confident in talking to me about things. I do some filing as well.”

“I am excited to get to know more people and have networking opportunities,” Tapia said when asked what she was hoping to gain through her new position. “Making those connections are so important.”

The Spencer Area Jobs Trust is a partnership between the city of Spencer and Spencer Municipal Utilities that provides existing employers with support and financial resources for internships. The purpose of the program is to connect talented students with existing employers in Clay County and to help employers recruit and retain skilled workers. Spencer Area Jobs Trust is an organization that consists of representatives from Spencer area businesses and the Iowa Lakes Corridor.
