Executive Director
The Executive Director is an “exempt" position reporting to and accountable to the Board of Directors to provide executive leadership to the Storm Lake United organization.
Responsibilities
Financial Management
- Oversee the general finances of Storm Lake United in a professional and ethical manner.
- In coordination with Board Treasurer and financial bookkeeper, develop an annual budget for Storm Lake United's operations that lists projected revenues and expenses.
- Lead, direct, and develop Storm Lake United's membership growth, member fee structure, fund-raising strategies and capital campaigns.
- Monitor Storm Lake United's overall fiscal condition.
Personnel Management
- Oversee the management of Storm Lake United's staff including hiring, terminations, employee performance and retention tools. Annually review compensation plans, policies and goals.
- Coach and develop the internal leadership team to attain consistent, productive performance.
- Develop and implement continuous improvement initiatives, key performance indicators (KPI's) and optimize performance and results.
- Promote a working environment of excellence, external and internal collaboration and professional standards for the organization.
Additional Duties & Responsibilities

- Oversee the day-to-day operations of Storm Lake United, including management of programs, staffing and marketing plans.
- Develop retail and tourism promotions within the annual budget parameters.
- Oversee membership recruitment and retention.
- Prepare agendas and materials for Board meetings, Executive Committee meetings, Retail Committee and Marketing/Event planning meetings.
- Present organization updates and recommendations to the Board.
- Serve as the principal spokesperson and ambassador for Storm Lake United.
- Represent Storm Lake United at business and community events, meetings, etc.
- Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with Iowa Lakes Corridor, City of Storm Lake, Buena Vista County Board of Supervisors and Western Iowa Tourism.
- Ensure management of the website and social media platforms.
- Oversee Storm Lake United's Annual Events.
- Assure that organization priorities are responsive to member needs and serve to advance the City of Storm Lake's economic welfare.
- Maintain open communication with the Board.
- Oversee the implementation of a digital marketing Plan
- Assure a positive community image.
- Additional duties as assigned by the Board of Directors.

- Strong ability to foster teamwork and collaboration between/among Board members, staff, Storm Lake United members, community leaders, elected officials and strategic committees and organizations.
- Strong executive and supervisory skills, including ability to plan, organize, lead, delegate, and monitor.
- Demonstrated ability to prepare and manage a budget, to analyze organization performance and to project financial performance.
- Ability to work a wide and flexible range of business hours, including overnight travel on an occasional basis.

Professional Experience
- Minimum of 3-5 years management/executive level experience in a business-related field or other leadership position, including supervision of professional staff and oversight of finances.
- Previous Chamber management experience preferred.
- Working knowledge of local, regional and state-level political systems and experience in developing collaborative relationships in these areas.
Education
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university required; or comparable professional training and experience attained through military, industry, or association service.
