Responsibilities
Buena Vista University is excited to reopen its search for a compassionate and dynamic University Counselor to join our dynamic student success team. This is a unique opportunity to turn your passion for helping others into real impact by supporting student mental health and promoting wellness across a close-knit campus community. If you're energized by student development, proactive wellness education, and meaningful one-on-one connections, this role will give you space to thrive while making a difference in students’ lives. This full-time, 10-month position (with summers off!) is based in the BVU Wellness Center and focuses on individual counseling, crisis support, and proactive mental health and wellness programming. You'll help students overcome personal and academic challenges while also playing a key role in shaping a culture of well-being that reflects BVU’s mission to foster lifelong success and unlock students’ full potential. As our primary in-person mental health counselor, you’ll provide direct services through individual and group sessions, guide students in personal development, and collaborate with peers across campus on wellness education initiatives. You’ll also work with our tele-counseling provider and community partners to broaden access to care and help ensure all students feel supported and equipped to thrive. Qualifications
We’re looking for a caring, engaged professional with a master’s degree in social work, counseling, or a related field, and who is Licensed as an LMHC, LMSW, LISW in the state of Iowa. Applicants with a temporary license will be considered for the position pending proof of secured external supervision.
