Spencer, IA – May 10, 2023 – The City of Spencer will be hosting a groundbreaking event for the North Y Gateway First Addition Development on Friday, May 19, 2023 from 11:30am - 1:30pm at 4000 Highway Blvd N. Spencer, the regional business hub of northwest Iowa and gateway to area communities, has long
awaited development on the north side of the community. Spencer is home of the Clay County Fair and is a regional destination.

The City of Spencer Mayor, Steve Bomgaars, commented, “This is a great opportunity for the City of Spencer to expand commercial development. With the development of infrastructure in this strategic commercial area, Spencer is in a great position to see economic growth in the near future. Many thanks to the city council, city staff and all of the stakeholders who have helped to make this development a reality.”

Dan Gifford, City of Spencer City Manager shared that, “once fully developed, the North Y Gateway willtruly be the north ‘gateway’ to the City of Spencer. This will be an area for existing and new commercial development to thrive. The high traffic count along U.S. Highway 71 makes this development an ideal
location for business.”

This expansion will include a one-half mile long newly constructed Second Ave, along with two cross street additions, 42nd St. and 37th St. Also platted, are future one block streets to the east. This commercial infrastructure addition is vital to Spencer’s economic growth, with U.S. Highway 71 seeing over 10,000 vehicles per day. This addition will create 10 commercially zoned lots spread across roughly 35 acres in the subdivision, ranging from approximate lot sizes of 490’ x 450’, to 490’ by 155’. The addition of Second Avenue will open up access to current and future properties on both the east and west sides of Second Ave.
