Responsibilities

Physical Therapist Assistant Job Responsibility: Under the direction of the supervising physical therapist, the assistant restores patient's function, alleviates pain, and prevents disabilities by administering physical therapy.

Physical Therapist Assistant Job Duties:

  • Helps patient accomplish treatment plan and accept therapeutic devices by administering manual exercises; instructing, encouraging, and assisting patients in performing physical activities.
  • Administers physical therapy treatments by utilizing their skills as a physical therapist assistant from those learned in training to those acquired through lifelong learning.
  • Reports to the physical therapist effects of physical therapy treatments by observing, and noting patient's progress; participates in the recommendations for adjustments and modifications.
  • Participates in discharge planning by consulting with members of the patient’s family.
  • Documents patient care services through electronic health record.
  • Maintains patient confidence and protects company through the HIPAA law.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.
  • Ensures operation of equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
  • Participates with in-service training programs.
  • Complies with federal, state, and local legal and professional requirements.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Able to self-promote skills and talents to the public.
  • Other duties as requested by clinic management within scope of professional license for the benefit of the team and company.

Qualifications

Physical Therapist Assistant Skills and Qualifications:

  • Licensed as a Physical Therapist Assistant in Iowa under good standing
  • Able to communicate with and motivate people
  • Be dedicated to lifelong learning
  • Desire to market and establish yourself as a medical professional in the community you work in
  • Legal and Ethical Compliance
  • Computer skills and comfort
  • Ability to lift and support up to 100 lbs. on a rare occasion
