Corridor Region projects awarded Empower Rural Iowa Grants

This week, Governor Reynolds announced over $450,000 in grants through the Empower Rural Iowa Grant Programs. Three projects in the Iowa Lakes Corridor were awarded grants:

  • Iowa Central Community College, Storm Lake received a Rural Scale-Up grant for $20,000 toward Career Technical Education (CTE) programs for the Storm Lake Regional Center, enhancing learning opportunities, providing equitable access to high-quality CTE programming, and help close opportunity gaps that exist in the region.
  • The Spirit of Okoboji, Milford received a Rural Enrichment Grant for $20,000 for the OkoboTree project to extend the longevity and beauty of trees in the Iowa Great Lakes through visual art preservation. The project will identify expried trees in the area with local partners, then secure donors and contract with artists to sculpt those trees into natural art to be publicy viewed for years to come.
  • The City of Esthervile and Estherville Chamber of Commerce received a Rural Leadership Bootcamp Grant for $1,000 to get training, mentorship and funding to initiate leadership programming.
